Waikowhai Primary School Athletics Day 2018

Hello blogging world. On the 2nd of November Waikowhai Primary School (the school I go to) had our school Athletics Day for 2018, Athletics Day is a day where you don't have to do any learning. Instead you have to go to your age group and you have to participate in a variety of activities like high jump, long jump, sprints, tennis and a lot more, and in the end the fastest runners in the house groups there will do a relay race. At the start of the day we all got into our age groups, there was the 5 year old boys, 5 year old girls, 6 year old boys, 6 year old girls, 7 year old boys, 7 year old girls, 8 year old boys, 8 year old girls, 9 year old boys, 9 year old girls, 10/11 year old boys and the 10/11 year old girls. I am 10 years old, so I got to the 10/11 year old boys groups, then we got into our first station which is the 400 meter run, a station is like 1 activity. After we did all the activities, all the groups came together for the house relays, the house groups are Kea, Ruru, Pukeko and Tui, and I was in Kea. For the final relay it was the 10/11 year old boys. I got picked to run for my house group with 5 more 10/11 year old boys in Kea, and in the next class assembly, it is announced that Pukeko won the relays.

Summer Learning Journey Archive Activity: Germany

Hello bloggers. This week we did the Summer Learning Journey, the Summer Learning Journey is like a site where you have to do activities and post them on your blog over the summer holidays. If you get the top 3 blogs and comments in your school you will get a prize pack, and the person with the most blogs and comments in the Ako Hiko cluster will get their own drone and last year the prize was a tablet. For the first activity we have to choose a country and we get to blog about it and say why we chose this country, I chose Germany because that's where most Footballers come from and they won the 2014 world cup in Brazil, and it looks perfect for tourists to go to. When we get to the Summer Learning Journey site, we have to go to the Archived content and choose Summer 2016 - 2017 and it will send you to a document where it will show you a list of countries linked to another document showing facts about the country. The facts will be like what the climate is, what the population is and where the location is, if you have trouble finding the site here's the link.

Movie Making

Hello bloggers. Last term (term 3) the senior syndicate have been making movies for the Ako Hiko Film Festival, the group who gets the best movie will get their movie to the Ako Hiko Film Festival. For our warm up before we got into filming the real movies, we had to split into groups of 3, which is with my friends Qais and Faris, and our teachers said that the idea of the warm up movie is that we have to present a knock knock joke in some way. The teachers also said we need to have a storyboard to plan what are we going to film, so we had to go on our Chromebooks and search up knock knock jokes we could use in our movie. In my groups knock knock joke is about the police, after we finished the storyboard, our teachers gave us the Ipads and we got into the filming, I haven't got the movie to show to you because I didn't upload it to my drive. When got back to our classes we learnt the different types of shots we should use for our movies, there were shots like medium shots, wide shots, close ups and a lot more, after that we had go to groups of 4 which is with my friends Qais, Hilal and Peter, and we had to create the script for the movie for the film festival. Our teachers told us our movie had to represent 'change', after we finished our script we showed it our teacher, and our teacher printed the script, after that she gave us an Ipad and we can start filming our movie. My groups movie was about a person who told 2 people that they want to play a match of Football, and you can watch my groups movie down below also there's the link for the film making script.

Novel Review 2018

Hello blogging world. This term (the last term of the year) my teacher told us we are doing another novel review similar like the one we did last year. The novel review is like an activity where you have to read a book and you have to finish the book by the end of the term. Everyday we have to read our book for 20 minutes and after that we have to work on a google slide created by the teachers. In the slide it has work relating to the book, like our favorite moment from the book, your opinion of the book and other things like that. Our teacher sent us to our reading groups and my reading group teacher told us that unlike last year the teachers are letting us choose our own books. The books we got to choose from were Caesar the War Dog, Private Peaceful, The Peco Incident, Bloodtree Chronicles and Red Rocks. The book I chose was Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo, I haven't read the whole book but looking at the description at the back, it says it's about a boy who got sent of to war. I haven't completed all the things in the slideshow, but I have completed most of it.

Here's the slideshow

This is Me Waikowhai Intermediate School thinking hats

Hello bloggers. This week (which is the last week of the term) the whole senior syndicate went to Waikowhai Intermediate School to watch their production 'This is Me'. When we got there we saw a lot of different schools like May Road, Hay Park and a lot more. Since our school was the first ones there we got the front row seats. Before the show started everyone was so loud and when the show started everyone went quiet, we saw a lot of students who previously were at our school and it was really cool to see them. When we got back to the school our teacher told us to do a reflection for the show using deBono thinking hats, and when we are finished we should blog it. If you want to find out more about Waikowhai Intermediate here is a link to their site.

Literacy Tumble (Week 4)

Hello Bloggers. This week we had to do another literacy tumble like the one we did for the past 3 weeks. If you haven't seen my last 3 blog posts read it now because I don't want to spend the next 10 minutes describing what the literacy tumble is. So anyways right now I am in the last activity in the must do's, well I haven't finished the 3rd and 4th activity in the must do's because I have to find out tomorrow to see what the activity is. Like all literacy tumbles all the activities get recorded in a slideshow with slight similarities than the last slideshows.

Literacy Tumble (Week 3)

Kia Ora blogging world. This week we had to do another literacy tumble similar from the one in the past 2 weeks. In case you didn't read the last 2 blog posts that I did earlier, I am going to explained what the literacy tumble is. So the literacy tumble is basically a group of activities which is mixed by reading and writing. The activities are split into 3 categories the must do's, should do's and could do's, and you have to finish all the must do's in the end of the week, plus if you finish all the must do's you have to do the activities in the should do's and could do's. The activities in the must do' is a blog comment, a reading task and a writing task. Right now I am in the first activity in the should do's which is a blog post, the second activity in the should do's is creative writing, then you have to do your cybersmart work and the final activity in the should do's is a summer learning journey activity. The first activity in the could do's is independent reading, the second activity is a poem activity and the final activity for the could do's is a note taking activity. Once you finish a activity it gets recorded to a slideshow that the teachers made.

Literacy Tumble (Week 2)

Hello blogging world. This week we had to do another literacy tumble like we did last week, but with different activities. This weeks literacy tumble was basically the same literacy tumble from last week, but it got different activities. It got the same categories from last week the must do's, should do's and could do's and one of the activities in the should do's was doing a blog post like last week and I am doing the blog post right now. Like last week we had to finish all the must do's by the end of the week and once you finish all the must do's you have to do the should do's and the could do's which is like extra work. Today which is Wednesday I finished all my must do's and I am on the first activity on the should do's. Also like last week all the work gets recorded to a slideshow, but a few adjustment's from last weeks slideshow.

This week we did this activity called the Literacy Tumble which is this activity where you have to do reading and writing activities that you have to do for the following weeks of the term. There are 3 categories that you have to do, one of the categories is called the must do's and you have to finish all the activities in the must do's by the end of the week. Another one of the categories are called the should do's, which is extra work if you finish the must do's and one of the activities in the should do's is making a blog post which I am doing right now. The last one of those categories are called the could do's and if you finish all the activities in the must do's and the should do's you have to do the activities in the could do's. Technology rotation

Hello blogging world. Three weeks ago each class in the Te Waka Ako had to do a technology rotation every Friday. My first class rotation was in the blue space and we had to do a Geo board which is like board where you can make shapes out of it. First we had to go to groups of four and we had to take turns using a saw to cut the wood which is the base of the board. Then we had to use a permanent marker to draw a dot to where we are going to hammer the nails. After that we had to hammer the nails into the board, once we finished hammering the nails we had to use it to make the shapes using rubber bands. Our second rotation that my class had to go to was the green space and we had to do a technology challenge. We had to go into groups of 3 to 5 and our whole group had to sit somewhere in the room as our teacher handed use the materials we had to use. The point of the challenge is that we had to sit on a table and we had to use our materials to make like a bridge in the end of our table and we had to make the bridge strong enough to hold a marble. My classes last rotation was in the yellow space and we had gather around in a circle and our teacher gave a use a battery and this small light that isn't lighting up. But our class found out that if you connect the lines of the small light onto the battery the light lights up. Then our teacher asked us to make a electric circuit using materials like paper clips and tinfoil and we also had to do make a switch to turn the light on and off. When I finished my circuit I managed to make the light go on and make a switch but I didn't make my object long enough but I think I did a good job.

Stop motion

Hello bloggers. Today our whole syndicate had to make a stop motion animation. The stop motion animator app is in our Chromebook. We had to make our stop motion using play dough, Lego and other stuffs. I made my stop motion video using Lego because I thought it was easier to use Lego than play dough. How the stop motion animator app works is that you can take lots of pictures by pressing capture or space bar and when you are done taking pictures all the pictures you took can be put in a video and you can just play the video by pressing the play button. Next time I think I need to make the video longer because the video I made was only 2 seconds. I think I also have to make the video slower because the one I made was too fast.

Improving blog comments

Hello blogging world. This week for our cybersmart lesson we had to pair up with another student and we had to comment in each others blogs. Once we published our comment we had to copy and paste our comment to a DLO (Digital Learning Object). Then we had to improve our comment that we wrote and we had to add a question at the end and we also had to include PTH which means positive, thoughtful and helpful. We also had to check the comment for the spelling, punctuation and grammar. We had to make sure does the comment make sense and does it convey meaning, we also had to keep the question that we wrote brief and polite. And the changes that I made were being more specific with all the sentences that I wrote and I also add a question at the end.

                                                                    Here is the DLO

Installation Art

Hello bloggers. This term for the Waikowhai Primary School Art Festival my class decided to do a house and it's filled with rubbish. We decided to do this because the world is filled with rubbish and it's like were filling our house with rubbish. So we only had to take a few students to help build the house, but after 8 weeks we managed to finish the house. We had to do a slideshow about the installation Art and we had to get into groups and present it to 1 of the classes in the school. Then we had to do a sign about pollution and put it around the house.

Oat the Goat thinking hats

Hi Bloggers. This week for reading our teacher gave us this task called Oat the Goat thinking hats. So there was this link that goes to a online story called Oat the Goat. The whole story was about bullying, so first it asked us the reading language and we had to choose either Maori or English. Next we had to choose either read the story to yourself, let the story read to you and watch the video of it. I chose the language to English and to let the story read to me. Then I got to watch the video. There were also some parts in the story where you can pick sides and choose options, when you choose one option Oat will do the option you picked and some options are wrong and one option is right. If you want to see it for yourself here is the link. Next we have to do a Oat the Goat thinking hats and we had to put all of our information to the thinking hats.

Tiritiri Matangi

Hello bloggers. 3 weeks ago for inquiry we were learning about animals and pollution, so we decided to go to Tiritiri Matangi which is a wildlife sanctuary that people can visit. We had to go to school at 7.30 in the morning because the bus came at 7.50. The bus stopped at the city and we had to walk to the ferry that went to Tiritiri Matangi. In the ferry we ate morning tea and if we had money we could buy stuff in the ferry. When we arrived on Tiritiri Matangi we had to put 2 groups into 1 group and each group had a guide. After our guide introduced herself we went on this 1 hour walk and during the walk we saw these rare New Zealand native birds like the Saddleback, Stitchbird and the Kereru. After the walk we went to the visitors centre and we ate lunch there. After we ate lunch and we had to do a scavenger hunt. We had to go back to the Wharf and we had to wait for the ferry. When we got in the ferry, the ferry took off to go to the city. When we arrived at the city we got in the bus to go back to school.

Des Hunt Visits Waikowhai Primary

Hello bloggers. Today Des Hunt came to visit our school, Des Hunt is a famous New Zealand author who writes books for kids. So in the morning it was the year 3s and 4s who came to see Des Hunt first, when the year 3s and 4s were finished it was the year 5s and 6s to come and see Des Hunt. When we came to the hall to see Des Hunt, the first thing he showed us was his backstory. Next he talked about the first book he wrote which was the last Tuatara. Then he talked about how he liked chemicals. At the end he showed all the different books he wrote.

My favourite part was when he made a explosion by spraying peppermint on a small container and attached it to a fire gun for lighting stuff like candles and he pulled the trigger on the fire gun and the small container came flying in the hall. It was my favourite part because I think is was really cool. He did two small explosions with the fire gun, then he did the same trick that he did with the fire gun but with something bigger and there was a even bigger explosion.

Now I have seen this presentation I might read more of Des Hunt books, because I think it will really help me with my reading. I also think he makes really good adventure, action and science books for kids to read.

Te Reo Maori

Hello Blogging world. Last week in Te Reo Maori we did the whole April calendar in Maori. So we had to write 1 to 30 numbers in Maori and we had to write one number in each day following the month of April. We also had to add the Maori word for April. What I learnt is basically numbers in Maori and how to say April in Maori. I think I did really well, but I think I need to decorate it more. I think this fits well with my goals because my key competency goal was communicate effectively with others and my writing goal was sentence structure.

Inquiry as Te Waka Ako (Thursday)

Hello blogging world. This Thursday for inquiry the whole Te Waka Ako (Hauraki, Waitemata and Manukau) came together as the whole syndicate. The whole syndicate got split into random groups of 6 or 7 and there were these stations of different species of animals. So we went around all the different stations and we had to present to the whole syndicate the station we started with. The one my group started with was crustacean and we had to decide if we want to present it by a play, skit, song or a report. My group decided to do a song. The song is not complete but I think its pretty good. Here are the lyrics we came up with.

crustacean crustacean

they all live in the sea

they all have shells

not like you and me

there are crabs

there are shrimp

there are lobsters too

but non of them moo

If The Ocean Had a Voice

Hi bloggers. This week for reading we had to read this book called giving the ocean a voice, it was a about a person named Teone Sciascia and people were interviewing him. Teone was talking about going around the pacific ocean in a waka with 6 other people. While he was going around the pacific ocean he saw lots of sea animals dead because there were lots of rubbish. So so I did a google drawing with my friend Bilal and we added pictures of sea animals, we also added some text and we did the background as the ocean.

Show not tell, setting writing

Hello bloggers. This week we are working on using descriptive language by sharing our writing straight onto our blog.  The challenge we have is to describe a place using only six sentences. After reading the description you need to guess the place that has been described. It would really help if you say what clues helped you come to this conclusion.

1)Located in a continent where all mysteries lie

2)It's a place were there are triangular shaped buildings everywhere

3)The temperature out there could melt your eyes

4)The whole ground is covered with a material that people hate

5)The sun above you is making you die for water

6)You just wish that you could find the perfect shelter

Write a comment of what you think this place is.

All About Me 2018

Hi Bloggers. Two weeks ago the whole Te Waka Ako created another All About Me for this year. First our teacher gave use a template that we had to decorate and there are questions like what's your favourite subject and what you did in the holidays. We had to change the background, change the font and we also had to add a photo of our self.

Welcome back to 2018

                                           WELCOME BACK TO 2018!!!!!
Hi bloggers. Welcome back to my blog in 2018 and I hoped you had an awesome holiday!.  Now lets get started to my first blog post of 2018. So this week we did our first Cybersmart lesson and we had to go to the Kawa of Care page which we sighed at the beginning of last year. There was list of taking care of our Chromebook and you have to choose 1 and you had to make a DLO [Digital Learning Object] about it. Me and my friends Qais and Nicholas chose keep your password safe, so we decided to make one together. We had to choose between poster, infographic or video and we chose poster.
